Learn Who We Are

  • Bill Taylor
    BVSc.

    Bill graduated in 1997 from Sydney University and entered mixed practice in Gerringong where he practiced for two years before moving to the UK to strengthen his small animal skills. After spending 4 years abroad the great Downunder beckoned Bill back to Canberra where he worked at Inner South vets for 4 years, adding skills in exotic animal and bird medicine to his repertoire. Following this, Bill joined us here at Queanbeyan in 2009 and has been constantly improving and expanding the practice since. Bill has undertaken further studies in exotic species, surgery and behavioural medicine to ensure we are up to date with the latest advances in veterinary medicine. Away from work Bill relishes spending time with his wife Alison (a veterinarian at Kippax) and his two young boys Jack and Hugh. When Bill has a chance he likes to head down to the coast to play beach cricket with his boys, take his poodle Poky for a run, and to relax!

    Louise Nicholls
    BVSc(Hons), MACVSc

    Lou graduated from Sydney University in 2000 and started working on the NSW-Victoria border near the Snowy Mountains. She moved to Bowral in the Southern Highlands for 6 years, interspersed with a 1yr internship in small animal surgery in Sydney and 18mths of travelling and locum work in the UK. Still restless, Lou completed more locum work around Australia before moving to our sister practice Kippax Veterinary Hospital where she has worked since July 2009. In January 2014, Lou transferred to us here at Queanbeyan Vet Hospital and is now a partner in Queanbeyan Vet Hospital and Jerrabomberra Vet Hospital. Lou lives with her husband Greg and their 3yr old retriever Ernie, who is a qualified Pets as Therapy dog for Delta. When not working, Lou can be found relaxing with friends and family, visiting Greg’s farm in western NSW, or training for triathlons.

  • Michael Archinal
    BVSc, IVAS(Cert), PTC(Hons)
    Senior Small Animal Partner

    Michael is the Senior Small Animal Partner in the practice. He graduated from Sydney University in 1987 and after five years in country practice, started the Bateman's Bay Veterinary Hospital. After five years of very successful practice, he was recruited as a partner here in 1996. Michael is our resident dermatologist and is also a qualified acupuncturist having been awarded the IVAS diploma in acupuncture and has undertaken post-graduate training in animal behaviour. He is married to Jodie, and has three sons and two Labradors named Rosie and Genie. How he combines family life, football refereeing, a single digit golf handicap, commitments in his local church, a television, radio and print career and veterinary practice remains one of the great secrets. Michael is currently studying for his MACVS in Pharmacology.

  • Andrea Thompson
    Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

    Andrea has grown up in Queanbeyan all her life and also attended school in the area. Upon graduation of year 12 from Karabar high in 2016, Andrea moved straight into studying for her certificate IV in veterinary nursing at CIT and graduated in 2017. Andrea started at working here at the end of 2017. At home Andrea has 2 Labradors that are brother and sister, a guinea pig and 3 horses. Andrea has a passion for athletics and competes at an advanced level. Her other interests outside of work include horse riding and travel.

  • Chantelle Odd

    Chantelle is a Canberra local. She has always had a passion for animals and knew from a very early age that her goal was to work in the animal industry. Chantelle completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2009 and has experience in small animal nursing in Canberra and Brisbane. Chantelle loves all things animal and spends a great deal of her time caring for her family’s many rescued cats and dogs. Outside of work, Chantelle is a mother of two young boys and loves reading, yoga and camping with her family.

  • Bronte Ingham

    Bronte grew up alongside many family pets, from ducks to dogs and everything in between. Bronte worked in many different roles after finishing year 12, including architecture, pathology assistance and nannying. Finally, she found her real passion as a veterinary nurse.

    In 2019, Bronte completed her certificate III in animal studies and then went on to complete her certificate IV in veterinary nursing. Her career as a nurse began at Molonglo Veterinary Hospital as a work experience student and she is very excited to have recently joined the Queanbeyan team. Outside of work, Bronte enjoys sewing, reading, baking, playing board games, bush walking and spending time with her husband Noah, dog Ponyo and rabbit Snorkel.

  • Alice Elliot

    Alice graduated from Massey University in 2017. Originally from NZ, she made the move across the Tasman to start her career in Canberra and has not left! She enjoys all aspects of veterinary science, with a special interest in small animal medicine. Alice enjoys the special bond and relationship that people share with their animals, and is excited to get to know you while working for the best interest of your beloved pet. Outside of work, she likes exploring all the nature walks that Canberra has to offer, and reading a good book.

    Udita Graduated from James Cook University in 2019. Originally from Canberra, she is looking forward to returning to the region to do all things small animal, with a special interest in small animal medicine.In her spare time Udita enjoys reading, board games nights and spending time with her friends and family.

  • Loreena Butcher
    BVSc.

    Loreena graduated from the University of Sydney in 2013. Originally from Lake Macquarie, Loreena worked in mixed practice in the Hunter Valley for 2 years followed by 4 years in West Gippsland, Victoria, gaining experience in large and small animal medicine and surgery. Loreena moved to Canberra and joined the team at Queanbeyan/Jerrabomberra Vet Hospital in November 2019. She enjoys all areas of small animal medicine and surgery, and has a special interest in diagnostic ultrasound and cardiology. In her spare time, Loreena enjoys going to the gym, surfing, stand up paddle boarding and any other activity in or around the water.

  • Alex Duggan

    Alex started her veterinary nursing career at Kippax Vet Hospital as a work experience student in

    2018 before completing her veterinary nursing certificate IV in September 2019 whilst working as a
    kennel hand and nurse. Alex has worked in the animal industry for many years working with a range
    of animals from cattle to chickens. When not working at Queanbeyan and Jerrabomberra Vet
    Hospitals Alex does puppy classes at Googong Vet Centre. She loves to travel and has been to
    Iceland, Ireland, England, France, and United Arab Emirates. Alex’s other hobbies are baking,
    decorating cakes, and spoiling her fur babies Sooty the cat and Rubeus the Labrador

  • Brooklyn Perrin

    Born and raised in Carwoola, her passion for animals blossomed through the years spent in her family home. She has completed her certificate III in animal studies and is currently studying her certificate IV in veterinary nursing. Brooklyn has also completed her certificate IV in fashion and wishes to begin her certificate IV in captive animals to start a new journey of becoming a zoo keeper.When Brooklyn is not working she spends a lot of time with her Malamute Alaska and trains in body building.

  • Felicity Blacker
    Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

    Felicity started as a kennel hand in 2014 and started nursing in 2015.She has her Certificate III in Animal Companion Services and is currently studying Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. She has a dog Phoebe who is a Cocker Spaniel X and has just recently adopted 2 beautiful kittens named Google and Twitter. She has a love for all animals and also volunteer's at the zoo one day a week working with the Primates. In her spare time she likes to read any books on animals and watch David Attenborough films

  • Naomi Dempsey
    Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

    Naomi has been with us since October 2016. Our own gothic angel, Naomi has a heart of gold. She has extensively traveled to do charity work,including with Animals Asia in China for three months and Big Conservation in Africa. Naomi has plans for further work like this in the future. A Canberra local, Naomi completed her certificate four in Veterinary Nursing in 2015. Naomi’s pets include cockatiels Ash and Peppie, a beagle named Zara, and a cat named Elvis (the King!) In her spare time Naomi enjoys relaxing with her pets and watching movies.

  • Sonna Schramm
    Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

    Sonna is our head nurse. In 2007 Sonna joined our Jerrabomberra Veterinary Hospital, and completed her certificate IV in veterinary nursing in 2008. Sonna enjoys working on her continuing education, ensuring she is keeping up to date with new practices, and nursing ideas for our team along the way. Sonna tries to visit the preschool once yearly to discuss with children about animal safety and caring for them, this putting her animals and love for children together. When Sonna isn't looking after all the Jerrabomberra animals she is spending time with her husband Steve, her little boy Cody, who shares her love of animals with her, he is always willing to visit at work and met the new animal visitors and give them a much needed cuddle, and her pets Teddy the shihtzu and Munchkins her rescued cat. Outside of work Sonna's interests are camping, motor bike riding, and cooking.

  • Nicki Mokhiza
    Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing

    Nicki is one of our senior nurses. She has been a qualified vet nurse for over 10 years now. Nicki started working at Kippax Veterinary Hospital in 2007 after a three month adventure in South Africa. Nicki met her husband while in South Africa and they now have a beautiful little boy, born in Decemeber 2009. Nicki first started working at our clinic at the beginning of 2012. Nicki's family has several horses and she has competed in endurance riding (long-distance) for the past 20 years. She also enjoys playing volleyball, polocross and making jewellery.

  • Freya Spanney
    BVMS

    Growing up in WA with a menagerie of different animals, Freya knew from an early age that she wanted to be a vet. Graduating from Murdoch University in 2017 and working in a small Perth practice for a year, she made the move across the country to join the Queanbeyan Vet Hospital family in February 2019. She enjoys all aspects of working as a vet with a special interest in small animal surgery. She has spent time volunteering in different veterinary roles; a spey/neuter clinic in India, helping manage stray street dog populations, and for ‘Pets in the
    Park’; a Canberra charity group that provides veterinary assistance for homeless people and their animal companions. In her free time, Freya likes to boulder and go explore Canberra's many walking trails with her
    partner Wen and their golden retriever Lily.

    Jenny Edwards
    BVSc.

    Originally from north Queensland, Jenny graduated from James Cook University in 2011. She worked in mixed practice for 12 months in QLD, followed by a short working holiday in Tasmania, before moving to join us at Queanbeyan in 2013. After 2 years here, she left for the UK, where she enjoyed working in a small animal practice by the sea in Sussex. Jenny returned to Queanbeyan Vet Hospital in April 2016 and (aside from cute puppy vaccinations) has an interest in imaging and internal medicine.

  • Heather Shortridge
    BVSc.

    Heather graduated from the University of Sydney in 2008 and started her career with four years working in mixed practice in Armidale. She followed this up with 18 months working in the United Kingdom and travelling around exciting parts of Europe. Heather has been working with us since the start of 2015.  Heather loves working as a vet and looks forward to caring for your pets. In her spare time she likes attending conferences (sometimes in exotic locations), walking,  playing pub trivia, and running Mums and Bubs Aquarobics sessions. Heather also enjoys hanging out with her husband Dan and their children- Golden Retriever Pickle, Kelpie Izzy, the wonderful cats, Charlie, Kitani, and Surinda, and their most recent addition the furless two footed toddler  Lucie.
